The SMA engineer graduates represent Greece in the International Council of the Aeronautical Sciences – ICAS

HAFESS Press Release

The Hellenic Aerospace Engineers Scientific Society was established in 1981. Members of the society are all the active and retired officers of the Hellenic Air Force Academy Engineering school (known as SMA), from which all Hellenic Air Force and other countries’ officers having the specialty of Aeronautical, Electronics/Telecommunications and Civil Engineering graduate.

In August 2023, HAFESS was admitted to the International Council of Aeronautical Sciences (ICAS), receiving the honorable mission to represent our country in this global organization.

Greece actively participates in ICAS with HAFESS as its national representative, with Mr. Vasilios Yfantis, chairman of the BoD of HAFESS, as a member of ICAS Council, and with three members in the Congress Program Committee: Dr. Kyriakos Kouroussis, Dr. Vasilios Miliotis and Dr. Konstantinos Stamoulis. Κωνσταντίνο Σταμούλη.

The assumption of this position, of a full Member Society in ICAS, places HAFESS at the center of developments regarding the promotion and evolvement of aeronautical sciences and aeronautical technology in our country.

Founded in 1957, ICAS is a global forum for aerospace companies, academic institutions, research centers and professional associations in the field, counting 27 full members and 29 associate members. Some important affiliated members are: Boeing, Airbus, Lockheed Martin, Safran, Rolls-Royce, Leonardo, Embraer, SAAB and research organizations such as ONERA (French Aeronautics and Space Research Center), DLR (German Aerospace Center), C.I.R.A. (Italian aerospace research centre), FOI (Swedish Defense Research Agency) etc.

Each country is represented in ICAS by one full member while several associate members may participate.

With the selection of Hellenic Air Force Engineers Scientific Society (HASFESS) as a representative to the International Council of Aeronautical Sciences (ICAS), SMA engineering graduates are recognized and promoted as pioneers in the world of aeronautical science and technology.

The global reach of ICAS, the size and qualitative characteristics of the participants demonstrate the strategic importance of Greece’s representation in this international council, creating a framework for the exchange of knowledge and synergies at a global level.

These ties strengthen HAFESS’ position as a driving force for the development of aeronautical science and technology, contributing to the promotion of our country as a pioneer in research and development in the areas covered by ICAS, at a global level.

The next ICAS Conference (34th) will take place in Florence, Italy on 9-13 September 2024. The relevant call for talks and presentation of scientific/technical papers has been posted on the Conference website: https://www.icas2024.com/.
