The Hellenic Aerospace Engineers Scientific Society was established in 1981.
Members of the society are all the active and retired officers of the Hellenic Air Force Academy Engineering school (SMA), from which all Hellenic Air Force and other countries’ officers having the specialty of Aeronautical, Electronics/Telecommunications and Civil Engineering graduate.
Its mission is the professional and scientific recognition and vesting of its members, their elevation and promotion, the development of a sense of solidarity and fellowship, as well as the provision of scientific and generally technological support for the advancement of the scientific and aviation sector in particular.
More specifically and based on article 2 of its Statute, the purpose of the society is:
- The organized and coordinated effort of its members for their professional and scientific recognition and appreciation.
- The elevation and promotion of its members as well as the protection of their ethical and professional interests.
- The strengthening of unity and the development of close ties of solidarity and camaraderie as well as the raising – cultivation of the spiritual and cultural level of the members.
- The raising of the scientific level of its members; the improvement of their scientific knowledge and the provision of scientific and technological support where necessary, for the advancement of the aviation sector.
- The unbound and reliable formulation of public speech and documented opinion, either directly or through the press, on issues within the Greek area (state or private bodies) and especially related to the Armed Forces that lie within the expertise and experience of its members.
- Its function as a tank of scientific personnel of retired officers who can continue providing their contribution to Hellenic Air Force under mutually agreed procedures and collaboration with the active members of the society.
